AUGUSTA, Maine - John Richardson received the endorsement of the trade union representing the state's plumbers and pipefitters. Richardson has garnered strong support from both business leaders and labor groups because of his emphasis on job creation in the campaign.
The union, Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 716, gave Richardson its endorsement at its most recent membership meeting. John Napolitano, Business Manager for the local, said, "John Richardson had the courage to lead and create jobs during these tough times. He has the experience and the know-how to put Maine back to work and to fight for working families. John understands that jobs that pay fair wages with benefits and training programs help build our workforce for the future; this is good for Maine and good for the economy. After considering all the candidates and the issues the members of Local 716 are proud to endorse John Richardson for Governor."
The local, with nearly 700 active and retired members in the state of Maine, cited Richardson's long career as a labor lawyer, his background as a certified public accountant, his experience as a legislator, and as Commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development, in announcing their support
Richardson thanked Local 716 for their support, saying, "Having come from a union family, I understand the important contributions that you make to Maine's economy every day. It is your work ethic, quality and craftsmanship which place Maine-made products above those made in other parts of the world. We need to work together to make your jobs more secure, and support your families."
Richardson, a Democrat, is a candidate for Governor of Maine, running as a Clean Elections Candidate. An attorney, Richardson represented District 63 in the Maine House of Representatives from 1999 to 2006, and was most recently Commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development. He resides in Brunswick with his wife, Dr. Stephanie Grohs, and their three children.
